What causes Arc Flash?

Arc flash occurs when electrical current becomes uncontrolled and passes through an air gap between conductors. This results in a release of electrical energy that ionizes the surrounding air, generating an enormous amount of light, heat, and sound.

Arc Flash is caused due to uncontrolled conduction of electric current between phases and or neutral with ionization of air surrounding the conductors, due to vaporization of conductive metals Arc flash can turn into 3 phase Arc fault. At this point heat energy and intense light generated is called arc flash.
