What is Demand Response ?

Demand response is strategy to reduce or shift energy consumption from peak Demand hours of the day to leaner Demand periods.
Demand response is a strategy used by electric utility companies to reduce or shift energy consumption from peak hours of the day, when the demand for electricity is the greatest to leaner demand periods.

Demand response is a change in the power consumption of an electric utility customer to better match the demand for power with the supply.

Demand response is consumers responding by reducing their current power demand for given time period, basis

  • Different tariff during peak load time zone,
  • Financial incentive during off peak load time,
  • Signal from utility, based on consumer load

Hence, consumers should create their energy baseline by measuring how their load pattern is during different tariff zones in a day and also measure pattern of their maximum demand. After this they can shift usage to another suitable tariff zone and put demand control means to shed non priority load to keep maximum demand under control.

Demand Control means, like Demand Control Meter / Relay, can Measure Maximum Demand and give comand to reduce / shed non priority load.
